Major Claude Update

I’m a day late to the party here. Claude can now search the web in real time. If this works well, it is a complete and total game changer. See here for the release from Anthropic.

With web search, Claude has access to the latest events and information, boosting its accuracy on tasks that benefit from the most recent data.

I haven’t given this much of a go yet, so I’ll explore and likely do a post reviewing its capabilities.

I was planning on doing a post this weekend about Perplexity AI and how to best use Claude/GPT to supercharge Perplexity. I have found Perplexity’s real-time web search capabilities particularly for things like restaurant recommendations and online shopping, where out-of-date information is often unusable.

If Claude’s web integration works well (and remains a feature–it’s only a trial for paid users for now), my guess is that Perplexity will no longer be necessary or will become even more niche than it currently is. Accordingly, it seems that post is no longer necessary. So it goes.

Things are changing quickly, and the speed of change is accelerating. I am openly uncomfortable with it, but now is not the time to bury your head in the sand.
