Music I Liked This Week

It’s hard to call any song a “deep track” when it’s The Beatles, but here’s a few songs of theirs you may be underrating.

  1. I Don’t Want to Spoil the Party
    • Vibe: Melancholic country-folk with introspective lyrics about social anxiety and feeling out of place
    • Similar to:Help!” – both songs share tight harmonies with John Lennon’s emotionally honest delivery; both rock harder than they have any right to

  2. Every Little Thing
    • Vibe: Upbeat pop with a driving rhythm, featuring prominent timpani and harmonious vocals that create an optimistic, energetic feel
    • Similar to:Ticket to Ride” – both have that infectious, bouncy energy that give a swinging 60s vibe

  3. You’ve Got to Hide Your Love Away
    • Vibe: Folk-influenced ballad with a contemplative, slightly melancholic tone about concealing one’s feelings
    • Similar to:Norwegian Wood” – both songs show Dylan’s influence on the Beatles with their folk arrangements and cryptic, introspective storytelling

Again, hat tip to Ian Leslie’s great new book for pushing me deeper into the songbook and sharpening my love for old favorites.
